A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has completed education and training beyond their RN license to provide wellness care to patients with common health problems. The nurse practitioners of The Pediatric Center help to make timely attention for your child possible.
A Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (CFNP) or a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) is qualified to see your child regarding colds, sore throats, and other such everyday sicknesses. They also perform routine medical care such as immunizations, diagnostics, and more. When they encounter problems beyond their training, your child will receive attention from a full Medical Doctor (MD).
To become a nurse practitioner, one must first complete their training to become a registered nurse (RN), which often requires a Master's degree. Only then may they pursue additional training to become licensed within the state they wish to practice.
The health industry has no shortage of acronyms, and the many titles medical professionals carry certainly reflect this. For your own reference, here are what some of those honorifics mean:
RN – Registered Nurse
MSN – Master of Science in Nursing
CFNP – Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
CPNP – Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
CNS – Clinical Nurse Specialist
FNP-CS – Family Nurse Practitioner Certified Specialist
